Control Function
Power key Press and hold to switch the detector on or off.

Power-on and zero calibration

Power on

  1. Install four AA 1.5 V alkaline batteries with the correct polarity.
  2. Press and hold the side power key for about 3 seconds.
  3. Wait until the display returns to zero and enters Measurement mode.
  4. In clean air containing no combustible gas, confirm that the display reads 0.0%LEL. If it does not, perform zero calibration.

Zero calibration

  1. Place the detector in clean air containing no combustible gas and let it stand for one minute.
  2. Press and hold ZERO. The ZERO indicator appears and the buzzer sounds continuously.
  3. After 6-8 seconds, confirm that the display reads 0, then release ZERO.
  4. The detector returns to Measurement mode and should read 0.0%LEL in clean air.

Measurement, units, and stored readings

Measure a suspected gas leak

  1. After power-on and zero calibration, bring the probe close to the suspected gas leak.
  2. Read the methane concentration shown as %LEL.
  3. For methane, the manual states that 100%LEL equals 50,000 ppm (5% by volume).

Switch measurement units

During measurement, press the oval key to switch between %LEL and x10 ppm. For methane, the manual states that 0.1%LEL equals 5 x10 ppm.

Store, clear, and recall readings

  • In Measurement mode, press MEM to store the current value. The detector stores up to 99 readings.
  • When memory is full, clear the previous records before storing new readings.
  • Press and hold CLR in Measurement mode until the buzzer sounds once to clear all stored values.
  • Press MODE once to enter Recall mode. Use MEM for the next record and CLR for the previous record.
  • Stored values remain only during the current power-on session; switching the detector off and on clears all records.

Set and interpret the alarm thresholds

  1. From Measurement mode, press MODE once for Recall, twice for ALA1 setting, and three times for ALA2 setting.
  2. In an alarm-setting screen, press CLR to move the flashing digit and MEM to change its value.
  3. Set ALA2 higher than ALA1. If ALA2 is not higher, the ALA2 setting cannot be accepted.
  4. Press MODE again to return to Measurement mode.

The factory defaults are ALA1 = 20%LEL (10,000 ppm) and ALA2 = 50%LEL (25,000 ppm). During normal measurement, display characters are white. Above ALA1, the alarm repeats and the characters turn green and flash. Above ALA2, the alarm sounds faster and the characters turn red and flash faster.

Warning: Take appropriate action immediately when the detector alarms to prevent injury or loss.

Battery replacement, calibration, and care

  • Replace all batteries promptly when the low-battery symbol appears.
  • For measurement accuracy, have the detector calibrated once each year by a qualified laboratory or organization.
  • Avoid high concentrations of combustible gas and do not leave the detector in high-concentration gas for long periods.
  • Never spray lighter gas directly at the sensor; the manual warns that this can severely damage it.
  • Protect the detector, especially the probe, from vibration, dropping, and mechanical damage.
  • Keep it clean and away from water and other liquids.
  • Store it in a dry, non-corrosive atmosphere and avoid silicone-containing materials, prolonged extreme humidity, heat, and contamination.
  • Remove the batteries for long-term storage. If stored without power for more than six months, power it on and allow it to run for one day before use.
