Main parts

  • Transparent baffle and stainless steel shield

  • Grinding wheel blade
  • Depth regulating valve
  • Tracheal joint (air inlet)
  • Exhaust port, clear silencer tube and breather pipe

How to use the pneumatic nick grinder

  1. Check the air source: pressure above 0.6 MPa and stable.
  2. Check the machine screws and other details, and confirm the spindle rotates normally.
  3. Fit the grinding wheel for the nick you need. Lock the depth regulating valve at the bottom; the setting does not need to be precise. Control the nick depth by pressing strength.
  4. Wear gloves, goggles, a mask and other protective equipment.
  5. Connect the air source. Suspend the air pipe.
  6. Inject a few drops of air tool oil into the inlet hole and plug in the air pipe. Turn the switch knob to the right. If the blade is stuck and does not turn automatically, pull the spindle to help it rotate. Idle slowly for more than 10 seconds, then turn the knob to the left.
  7. Place the die board flat and stable on the table. Do not install the sponge spring pad on the rule before nicking; the resistance makes the wheel easy to stop.
  8. Turn the switch to the right to raise the speed. When the speed is stable, pinch the body with thumb and forefinger, place the machine flat above the rule line, move to the position to be nicked, and press the body gently to start the opening. Move smoothly from nick to nick and always put the machine down gently.
  9. After finishing, turn the knob to the left and remove the air connector. Inject a few drops of air tool oil into the inlet hole, reconnect the air pipe, idle for a few seconds, stop the machine and disconnect the air source. Clean the body and store it properly.

Maintenance and part replacement

Oil the inlet before and after every session (steps 6 and 9 above). Without oil after idling, the motor rusts and sticks inside. The manual contains three replacement procedures.

Change the grinding wheel

  1. Hold the spindle with a small open wrench.
  2. Remove the nut with a large open-end wrench.
  3. Take out the fixture and the grinding wheel.
  4. Fit the new grinding wheel, put the fixture back, tighten the nut, then refit the cutting disc.

Change the motor

  1. Remove the protective cover and the grinding wheel fixture.
  2. Open the two plastic caps on top of the body.
  3. Loosen the two fixing screws inside.
  4. Pull the motor out from the rear of the body.
  5. Install the new motor, adjust its position and fix the two screws. Do not use excessive force, or the motor shell can deform.

Replace the air tube (trachea) joint

  1. Twist open the threaded joint with pliers. Do not damage the inner thread of the motor joint.
  2. Put a small amount of glue or wrap raw tape around the thread of the new joint.
  3. Twist the new joint in and tighten it.

The manual has no troubleshooting table. For a stuck blade, see step 6; for a stalling wheel, see step 7.

Frequently asked questions

What air pressure does the pneumatic nick grinder need?

Working air pressure is 0.6–0.8 MPa. Before use, check that the air source is above 0.6 MPa and stable.

How do I set the nick depth?

No precise setting is needed. Lock the depth regulating valve at the bottom and control the nick depth by how hard you press.

What do I do if the grinding wheel is stuck and will not turn?

After connecting the air, turn the switch knob to the right. If the blade is stuck and does not turn by itself, pull the spindle to help it rotate, then idle slowly for more than 10 seconds before turning the knob left to stop.

How often should I oil the tool?

Inject a few drops of air tool oil into the air inlet before use and again after finishing work, then idle for a few seconds. If the motor is not oiled after idling, it rusts and sticks and cannot be used normally.

Which grinding wheels are included?

Ten wheels: 0.2 mm × 2, 0.5 mm × 3, 0.8 mm × 2, 1.0 mm × 1, 1.2 mm × 1 and 1.5 mm × 1.

How do I replace the grinding wheel?

Hold the spindle with a small open wrench, remove the nut with a large open-end wrench, take out the fixture and wheel, fit the new wheel, put the fixture back, tighten the nut and refit the cutting disc.
