Safety checks before a hipot test

  • Only trained personnel should operate the tester. Use insulated gloves and an insulating mat where required by your safety procedure.
  • Verify the protective ground connection before applying power.
  • Keep the tester reset and confirm that the voltage control is at zero before connecting the device under test.
  • Connect the current-return lead before the high-voltage lead.
  • Do not touch the high-voltage output, test leads or device under test while voltage is present.
  • For DC testing, fully discharge the test circuit before replacing or handling the device under test.

AC/DC test setup and connection order

  1. Turn the voltage adjustment knob fully counterclockwise to zero and keep the instrument in RESET.
  2. Connect the protective ground and confirm that the selected input supply matches the instrument.
  3. Connect the current-return lead to the device under test, then connect the high-voltage test lead.
  4. Select AC or DC test mode, set the test time and set the leakage-current alarm threshold.
  5. Press START, then slowly turn the voltage control clockwise until the required test voltage is reached.

The high-voltage output remains at zero when the voltage knob is at its minimum position. Always return it to zero before changing connections.

How to set the RK2672AM test time

Set the tester to RESET before changing the timer. Use the time controls to select a value from 0.0 to 999 seconds. A setting of 0.0 runs a continuous manual test; any non-zero value enables a timed test with countdown.

How to set the leakage-current alarm

  1. Select the required AC or DC mode.
  2. Use the TEST/PRESET function to display the alarm-current setting.
  3. Adjust the current preset to the required limit for the test procedure.
  4. Return the tester to RESET before connecting or changing the device under test.

If measured leakage current exceeds the preset threshold during a test, the RK2672AM stops the high-voltage output and gives an alarm indication.

Manual and automatic testing procedures

Continuous manual test

Set the timer to 0.0, press START and gradually raise the voltage to the required level. Press RESET to end the test. If the measured current exceeds the preset value, the tester alarms and removes the high-voltage output.

Automatic timed test

Choose a non-zero test time, press START and raise the voltage to the required level. The timer counts down. The test completes without an alarm when the countdown reaches zero and the leakage current has remained below the preset threshold.

Optional RK2672AM PLC interface wiring

The optional 9-pin remote terminal accepts dry-contact control and provides voltage-free status contacts. Use momentary contacts for TEST and RESET, and never apply external power to the control inputs.
